PRAIRIE SCHOOL MUSEUM
1912: The first one room school was built 0.4 km outside of Rowley (similar to this school, which originally stood in White Rose, built in 1911 and was the Hillsgreen School). The building was moved to Rowley in 1993.
The one room school had a student capacity of 49 and the first teacher, Miss May Mclean, threatened to quit if the student count rose to 50.
The 2nd teacher was Miss Nellie Cameron who ran away with the Chautauqua (a travelling show) when they passed through Rowley.
1922: The one room school was moved and a two room brick school was built. Some classes were also held in the granary and the hospital east of the Rowley church.
1958: A three room school was built on the property Northwest of Rowley (still standing, but is now a private home)
1965: Rowley School closed and children were bussed to Rumsey School.
Today, the school is inhabited by dolls. Each doll is named after a student that attended the school back in the day. The back contains a teacherage to replicate what actual living conditions were at the time.
